SAN FRANCISCO: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Sunday that Instagram and Facebook would launch a paid subscription service starting at $11.99 per month permitting users to verify their social media accounts.

Meta Verified, which will roll out first in New Zealand and Australia this week, will let users verify an “account” get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you,” Mark Zuckerberg said.
He wrote to his social media account that this is about increasing security and authenticity across their services. According to Meta, there would be no changes to accounts on Instagram and Facebook that are already verified.
According to AFP, it was not clear how CEO of Meta planned to price verified in countries where social users cannot afford to pay 12 dollars per month.
Meta said in November that it would lay off 11,000 staffs the largest worker cut in the company’s history.
