MANIPUR: The Khurai Pana Nahasing youth community took to the streets to protest and draw the attention of the human rights organizations, and civil society to the challenges faced by indigenous people in Manipur.
The resolute youth, despite a curfew imposed in specific Khurai areas, wearied black shirts and masks, led the rally from Khabeisoi YOCS Ground, navigating alternative routes due to police intervention, ultimately reaching Khurai Somendro Lampak.
Originally intended to traverse Lamlong Bazar, Porompat Crossing, and Nongmeibung, the protest, spearheaded by the youth group Khurai Pana Nahasing, aimed to shed light on the dire situation prevailing in Manipur.
Sana Mangang, a member of Khurai Pana Nahasing, spoke on behalf of the organizers, emphasizing the urgency of their cause.
“The situation has been dire. The denial of access to fundamental rights, which began on May 3, has now continued for five months and has left us feeling unheard an1,206 Comments in moderationd frustrated. Mangang further went on to say that As youth, they are deeply concerned about their future. Despite repeated appeals by the Central and state governments over the past five months, their voices went unheard.
The demonstrators prominently displayed placards bearing their demands:
- To restore peace from the bloodshed caused by non-indigenous communities against the indigenous population.
- Demand NRC Implementation in Manipur to protect indigenous rights and identity.
- Resettlement of inmates in their hometowns, and right to live with dignity and security.
This peaceful rally underscores the determination of Manipur’s indigenous youth to address pressing issues and seek justice for their community. Their call for government intervention and the protection of fundamental rights echoes across the region, emphasizing the urgency of their cause.
