MANIPUR: A middle-aged woman was allegedly shot dead and three trucks were set ablaze while a Meitei women’s mob allegedly forced the security forces to release three armed miscreants in the violence-hit Manipur state in the past forty-eight hours.
The dead body of the Maring Naga community’s woman was found dead in her home in Meitei-majority Imphal East district on Saturday night. Her face was found bruised and disfigured. It is suspected that miscreants killed the lady who is reportedly a Kuki woman, according to Indian media.
Manipur police said on Sunday that they arrested nine suspects including five women in connection with the murder. Two arms with ammunition and a vehicle were also seized for probe into the case.

Hours before, three empty trucks were set ablaze by a mob at Awang Sekmai Mayai Leikai Lampak region of Imphal West district. Manipur police said on on Sunday that they arrested ninteen people in connection with the case.
On Sunday morning, fresh firing was also occurred in Phaileng area in Kuki-majority Kangpokpi district. Security forces started an operation that stopped the firing allegedly done by militants.
During the operation in the adjoining district of Bishnupur, sharing border with Kangpokpi, security forces arrested three armed men but a women mob blocked the area and stopped security forces. Three armed men, whom the Meitei women called as village volunteers, were later released due to strong demonstrations by the women.
Over 142 people have been killed and sixty thousands others have been displaced due to the clashes between the Kukis and Meitei since 3 May.
Although the security forces and the state government are struggling to stop the violence, sporadic incidents of arson and firing have kept the situation volatile.
