MANIPUR: The Manipur Peoples’ Party has expressed dissatisfaction over the meeting between Union Home minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister N Biren Singh held on Sunday in New Delhi.
The MPP likened the result of the meeting to division of the state and the existence of two chief ministers in Manipur.
According to Biren Singh’s statement released to media upon his arrival at Imphal Airport on weekend, Amit Shah had assured that all required steps would be taken to restore peace in Manipur, Indain media reported.
Strongly criticizing the statement, MPP president Ch Shamjai described the outcome of the meeting as indicative of Biren’s “cowardice”.
Call for courage to quell violence in Manipur
He demanded the chief minister to demonstrate courage and stressed that now is not the time to quit the post amid the ongoing unrest.
He urged Biren to start the lifting of the blockade on NH-II by utilising all available forces.
