The Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Council lashed out on Saturday at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for selective criticism and remaining silent on the violence that has engulfed Manipur for nearly three months.
“The entire Manipuri society condemns the inhumane act that went viral,” the party declared. “However, the prime minister’s attitude and cherry-picked press statement show his complete disregard for the entire issue in Manipur.”
Speaking to the media at Irawat Bhawan in Imphal, CPI State Council executive member RK Amusana questioned whether the prime minister’s intelligence cell had been kept informed of the countless barbaric actions committed against Meiteis in the hills.

“Enraged by the video, people from all over Manipur have demanded the harshest punishment for the perpetrators,” he asked. “Was he blind when barbaric acts were committed against the Meiteis, or was it too distasteful for his political narrative?”
He went on to ask if there were any vested interests in prolonging the Manipur crisis debate on the floor of the assembly.
He expressed unhappiness with the central government’s selective treatment of Manipur and stated that the people will protect the state’s territorial integrity regardless of the government’s so-called pledges.
“The Centre was eager to celebrate Manipur’s ‘Indianness’ when the state brought laurels to the country, but now that the state is burning, we are sidelined as if we are not a part of the country,” he said.
