NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old man from Balrampur India experienced a brain hemorrhage, which doctors suspect was triggered by the loud sound of DJ music. This rare case puzzled medical experts since the patient, Sanjay Jaiswal, had no prior history of high blood pressure, illness, or injuries.
Two days prior, Jaiswal felt sudden dizziness while loading DJ equipment but initially dismissed it and went home. Later that evening, while cooking dinner, he began vomiting and suffered severe headaches, according to TOI.
Dr. Shailendra Gupta, an associate professor in the ENT department at Government Medical College Ambikapur, reported that Jaiswal arrived at the hospital the following morning in a wheelchair. A CT scan revealed a blood clot at the back of his brain, likely due to a ruptured blood vessel. Typically, such incidents are associated with high blood pressure, trauma, or injuries, none of which applied to Jaiswal.
Dr. Gupta noted that Jaiswal was initially reluctant to disclose the true cause of his condition. However, after persistent questioning, Jaiswal admitted that the loud DJ music had made him dizzy while working near the equipment, and his condition worsened that night. Dr. Gupta explained that intense noise can occasionally lead to brain hemorrhages, particularly if the occipital region of the brain is vulnerable, which was the case for Jaiswal. His blood pressure was normal, and no other health issues were found.
In response to similar incidents, the Chhattisgarh High Court had previously criticized the state government for failing to manage noise pollution. The court required an affidavit detailing the measures taken to address noise issues, especially concerning DJs and amplifiers. Following this, the Chief Secretary convened a meeting with district collectors and police officials to enforce stricter noise regulations.
