ISLAMABAD/ PENNSYLVANIA: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents have arrested a man for allegedly carrying an explosive device to the Pennsylvania airport.
According to the BBC, Mark Muffley was accused of putting a device in his checked bag for a flight to Orlando, Florida. FBI agents said the suspect fled the airport after his name was called over the loudspeaker. But he was later arrested at his home.
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials said they spotted the device during a routine screening. Officials said Muffley checked in for 201 Allegiant Air Flight at the Lehigh Valley International Airport, 65 miles north of Philadelphia. About an hour later, TSA screeners found the suspicious device and called FBI specialists, including a bomb technician, to examine it.
FBI bomb technician Jared Witmier said that a 3in (7.5cm) suspicious device hidden in the suspect’s rolling suitcase was found to contain fuses and also explosive powder. According to the criminal complaint, there was the quick fuse, which appeared to be part of the original manufacture of a compound, and the hobby fuse, which seemed to have been added post-manufacture.
The FBI court document said the “powder is suspected to be the mixture of flash powder and the dark granules used in commercial grade fireworks.”
