KUALA LUMPUR: Najib Razak’s trial involving RM2.28 billion from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) has been deferred to September 17 as the ex-PM is still hospitalized due to acute inflammation of the knee.

Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL)‘s orthopedic and traumatology department senior official Dr Siti Hawa Tahir told the High Court that the medical committee needed to monitor Najib’s progress after prescribing him with opioids on September 10.

“Datuk Seri Najib’s medical certificate for was given based on yesterday’s assessment because when it comes to such conditions of acute inflammation, it goes day to day assessment. The former PM needs two days of rest,” she stated on September 12, saying that the pain has been reduced with opioids but Najib has also developed some side effects.

Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah then asked if former PM would be fit to attend the trial on September 13. Dr Siti Hawa says it depends on the assessment of a psychiatrist on Najib’s mental situation as he is on opioids. Some reports suggest that Najib is likely to attend the trial on September 17.
