KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in the UAE for a two-day official trip aimed at signing a free trade agreement, Arab media reported on Thursday.
Talks on a comprehensive economic partnership deal between the two nations started in May led by Malaysian Minister for Trade Tengku Zafrul and UAE Minister for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmad Al-Zeyoudi.
Malaysian Prime Minister Visits UAE
Earlier, in June, UAE Minister for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Zayed Al-Nahyan was in Kuala Lumpur for holding a meeting with Malaysia’s King Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah. PM Anwar Ibrahim and his ministers were also present on the occasion.
PM Anwar was received on his arrival by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, local media reported.

“The two leaders discussed current cooperation … and discussed means to build on these relations, particularly in the areas of the trade, economy, investment, renewable energy and food security that serve both countries’ vision for a sustainable and prosperous future,” the Emirati media reported.

The UAE is Malaysia’s major trading partner among west Asian nations, with two-way trade increasing to $8.8 billion in 2022 from $5.4 billion a year earlier.
