Malaysian, Pakistani PMs Promise to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation

ISLAMABAD:  Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has held one-on-one meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, local media reported on Thursday.  The two sides held meaningful and outcome-oriented in-depth talks in a warm and cordial atmosphere.

The talks covered a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest including those being faced by the Muslim Ummah. The two leaders discussed the mechanisms to enhance bilateral cooperation with a view to achieving solid results in these fields.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Malaysian Prime Minister on Malaysia’s upcoming Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025.

PM Anwar Ibrahim welcomed Pakistan’s continued engagement with ASEAN as Sectoral Dialogue Partner and expressed complete support for further engagement between Pakistan and ASEAN as well as Pakistan’s larger role in ASEAN.

Noting the long history of close cooperation between the two nations, both the Prime Ministers have reaffirmed resolve to strengthen the mutually beneficial partnership.  In setting the tone as well as future direction of bilateral ties between the two nations, the two leaders also stressed the significance of dialogue and exchanges of trips at all levels, and underlined the significance of the Joint Ministerial Commission, Bilateral Consultations and other mechanisms to enhance engagement at all levels.

Earlier, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim was accorded a warm welcome at his arrival at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Thursday. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received him at the main gate, local media reported.  On the occasion, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim also planted a sapling at the Prime Minister House.
