ISLAMABAD: The High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad on Saturday organized the Merdeka Golf Challenge 2023, a golf tournament held in commemoration of Malaysia’s 66th Independence Day, celebrated on August 31. The event brought together the Home-Based Staff of the High Commission and the Malaysian community residing in Islamabad.
The picturesque Bahria Golf City & Country Club in Islamabad served as the venue for this golf tournament. Besides showcasing the participants’ impressive golfing abilities, the event also highlighted their exceptional sportsmanship, creating a vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere.
The Prize Giving ceremony, graced by Ambassador Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia, took place at the Street 1 Cafe in the Diplomatic Enclave. Ambassador Azhar Mazlan praised the tournament as an excellent means of fostering friendship and camaraderie through the medium of sports. Colonel Noraripin Othman, Defence Adviser cum Club President, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, emphasizing that it was one of several sporting activities scheduled for the Malaysia MADANI Independence Month. Upcoming events will include cycling and bowling, promising further excitement for the community.
Winners of Merdeka Golf Challenge 2023
Among the participating golfers, Mr. Mohd Nur Khairi emerged as the overall champion, claiming the title with his exceptional golfing skills and unwavering determination. The second place was secured by Mr. Nurhaikal, and the third place by Mr. Kifayat. Additionally, Mr. Khairul Anwar was honored with the title of “Best Future Player,” acknowledging his promising talent in golf, while Mr. Zulasri Rosdi earned the coveted “Closest to Pin” award for his precision in shots.
The Merdeka Golf Challenge 2023 truly embodied the enduring spirit of friendship and sportsmanship among the golfers.
