Malaysian High Commission Hosts ASEAN Movie Night in Islamabad Featuring “PASKAL”

ISLAMABAD: The High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad concluded its ASEAN Movie Nights program with the screening of Malaysia’s acclaimed film “PASKAL,” celebrating the heroic efforts of the Malaysian Armed Forces.

Launched under the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI), the ASEAN Movie Nights aimed to promote the cultural and cinematic diversity of ASEAN member countries within Islamabad. “PASKAL,” based on the true story of Malaysia’s military rescue mission of the merchant ship MV Bunga Laurel from pirates in 2011, captivated the audience with its enthralling narrative and action-packed sequences.

High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, officiated the event and emphasized the film’s significance, stating, “PASKAL is not merely an action movie; it embodies Malaysia’s patriotism, unity, and the exceptional professionalism of our armed forces, showcasing the high caliber of our film industry.”

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, attended the event as the chief guest. Minister Tarar praised the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and Malaysia and highlighted the shared values of nation-building and patriotism between the two countries.

Over 200 guests attended the grand finale, representing a diverse cross-section of society, including Dean and Ambassadors of the Diplomatic Corps, ASEAN Heads of Mission, senior government officials, university students, and members of the media. The event showcased Malaysian traditional cuisine, offering delicacies such as fried rice, fried beehon, spicy chickpeas, fried banana balls, and Ice Cream Malaysia, enhancing the cultural experience for attendees.

The ASEAN-Malaysia Movie Night program proved to be a resounding success, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of ASEAN countries’ rich cultural heritage through the medium of cinema. The High Commissioner proposed making the program an annual event to further enhance cultural engagement and strengthen ties between ASEAN nations and Pakistan.
