NEW DELHI, India: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim suggested that his government might consider India’s request to extradite Islamic preacher Zakir Naik if substantial evidence is provided against him.

Speaking at the Indian Council of World Affairs, Anwar emphasized that this issue should not hinder the enhancement of India-Malaysia bilateral relations. He clarified that the topic was not raised during his recent talks with Indian officials but acknowledged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had brought it up in the past.

Naik, who has been residing in Malaysia since 2016, is wanted in India for alleged money laundering and promoting extremism through hate speeches. Anwar stressed that Malaysia does not condone terrorism and is open to reviewing any evidence presented by India.

During his visit to India, Anwar also condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing the situation as the “sheer hypocrisy” of the West, and called for an end to the double standards in addressing global atrocities. Anwar’s remarks reflect Malaysia’s stance on international issues while highlighting the importance of cooperation against terrorism without allowing specific cases to impede diplomatic ties.
