Making History: ANP, PML-N, Five Women Contesting for KP Assembly Seats in Swabi

PESHAWAR: The candidates of Awami National Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl and independent candidates have locked horns in PK 53, PK-49, PK-50, and PK-51 constituencies for the Feb 8 polls.

In PK 53 former district Nazim Muhammad Zahid of ANP, Malik Yousaf of PTI-P, Adil of PML-N, and Naeem Ul Haq of JI are contesting to reach the provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A woman candidate Nazmia is also trying her luck and contesting elections on PL-53.

ANP candidate Muhammad Zahid said that he is contesting election to serve his people and country. He claimed that he would donate his salary for arranging weddings of poor in the society. He urged the people to exercise their democratic right wisely and elect those who can serve the people.

Ghafoor Khan Jadoon of JUI-F, Rangaiz Khan are contesting for PK-49. As per media reports, Shiraz Khan of PML-N had made seat adjustment with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Nazriyati as he withdrew in favour of JUI-N’s Maulana Khalil Ahmad from NA-19, and JUI-N agreed to extend their support for him in PK-49.

Total 14 candidates including Azala Atta are in the race for PK 49. Around 206,874 voters including 95,824 women will exercise their democratic right on February 8. In PK-50, 235,153 voters including 109,417 women will elect their representative among nine candidates. Babar Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-N and Nawabzada of Awani National Party are in tough contest on this key seat of KP provincial assembly.

Women Candidates Break Barriers in KP

Babar had won this seat in 2013 elections, but lost in 2018 general elections. Former speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser of PTI won this seat in 2018. His brother is also contesting on the seat. In PK-51, 12 candidates including Sikandar Irfan of ANP, Abdul Karim, Nawabzada of PML-N and Noor Islam of JUI-F.  In Swabi.

Making History

This time five women are also taking part in electoral race in Swabi as for the first time in the parliamentary history of the area, five women out of total 86 candidates are contesting the polls for the national and provincial assembly seats.

Of the women candidates, Meraj Humayun and Sitara Ayaz are contesting the electoral race in NA-19 Swabi-I, Azala in PK-49 Swabi-I, Nazmia in PK-53 Swabi-V, and Yasmin in PK-52 Swabi-IV. Local people are also actively taking part in the elections and hoped that new government will work for prosperity of the country.
