EL GUERGARAT, Morocco: In a joint security operation, the Sûreté Nationale and Customs at the El Guergarat border post successfully intercepted and seized 362 kg and 950 grams of cocaine destined for Morocco.

The hard drugs were concealed in an international goods lorry arriving from a sub-Saharan African country. The meticulous search revealed 16 bundles hidden in the cab and bodywork of the Moroccan-registered truck. Following the operation, the driver and his assistant were arrested.

This intervention is part of the Directorate General of National Security’s (DGSN) ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking, particularly the illegal trade of hard drugs and psychotropic substances into Morocco.

The recent high-profile case involving revelations from a drug trafficker has brought attention to the intersections of sports and politics, resulting in the arrest of around twenty individuals, including the head of a prominent football club and a regional president, in Casablanca. The DGSN’s intensified actions signify Morocco’s commitment to curbing the inflow of illegal substances across its borders.
