KARACHI: The 57th death anniversary of Madar-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah is observed on Tuesday (today) with profound respect and honour, as the nation pay rich tribute to her exceptional efforts alongside Pakistan’s founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Fatima Jinnah is fondly remembered for her passionate support for civil rights and her dedicated struggle in the Pakistan Movement.
Born in Karachi on July 31, 1893, she played a pivotal role in the movement for Pakistan, working closely with her brother, Mohammad Ali Jinnah. She rallied the women of the subcontinent, uniting them on a single platform, which significantly aided the struggle for a separate Muslim state.
After earning a dental degree from Kolkata University, she actively participated in politics alongside Muhammad Ali Jinnah. During the transfer of power in 1947, she formed the Women’s Relief Committee, which later became the foundation for the All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA).
Fatima Jinnah passed away on July 9, 1967, and was laid to rest besides her brother at the Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi.
