After consultation with coalition partners and under discretionary powers, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has picked Lt-Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza HI(M) as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.
Lt-Gen Mirza, a four-star general in the army, will replace Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Nadeem Raza.
Lt-Gen Sahir Mirza is currently serving as the Commander of the Rawalpindi Corps since he was appointed to the post on September 8, 2021.
Before he was appointed the Commander of the Rawalpindi Corp, he served as the 34th Chief of General Staff.
Lt-Gen Sahir Mirza was commissioned in the 8th Battalion of the Sindh Regiment. His previous assignments included Adjutant General at General Headquarters and Director General of Military Operations till November 2019. During his tenure in military operations, he commanded the 40th Infantry Division at Okara.
