KARACHI: Pakistan’s star cricketer Babar Azam has categorically refused to sport betting companies’ logos on his jersey during the Lanka Premier League 2023.
The fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be played from July 30 to August 22. The Colombo Strikers have roped in Pakistani star Babar Azam, who will lead the team in the tournament.
The cricket Strikers have signed an agreement with a betting company. Still, the Pakistan star, who has recently completed the Hajj pilgrimage, has refused to wear the firm’s logo as betting is prohibited in Islam.
Reports said the condition had also been made part of the agreement, adding that the franchise had also honoured the decision of Babar Azam.
Pakistan star Babar Azam and the opening player Mohammad Rizwan have returned to Pakistan after performing Hajj. They would join the training camp in Karachi before the national squad leaves for Sri Lanka for two-match Test series.
