VILNIUS: Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda held discussions in Vilnius, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation, regional security, and mutual support for Ukraine.

After the meeting, President Nausėda emphasized their commitment to increasing collaboration, conducting joint exercises, and enhancing military mobility between Lithuania and Poland. The leaders underscored the importance of unity in supporting Ukraine, with Nausėda expressing hope for an upcoming meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and representatives of the Lublin Triangle countries.

The Lublin Triangle is a trilateral alliance involving Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine, aiming to foster political, economic, cultural, and social cooperation. Its objectives include reinforcing dialogue, supporting Ukraine’s integration into the European Union and NATO, and collectively countering Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Lithuanian President Stresses Support for Ukraine

President Nausėda stressed the necessity of supporting Ukraine through political, financial, and military means. He highlighted the crucial role of military assistance to expedite Ukraine’s triumph over the aggressor.

President Duda expressed his belief that while Ukraine may not join NATO during the ongoing conflict with Russia, the initiation of the process could commence even at this stage.

The discussions between the Lithuanian and Polish leaders align with recent diplomatic efforts across Europe, including a telephone conversation between UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to explore additional assistance measures for Ukraine.
