LAHORE: Various parts of Lahore experienced light rain earlier Thursday, relieving the persistent smog that had gripped the city for the past few months.
The smog had significantly deteriorated the air quality, raising health concerns across different age groups and earning Lahore the unfortunate title of one of the world’s most polluted cities.
The rain in areas like Gulberg, Township, Johar Town, Model Town, and Bund Road brought about a noticeable temperature decrease. The mercury level in the city dropped to 16 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a moisture level of 76%.
In addition to the temperature drop, the rain positively impacted the air quality in Lahore. The air quality index, which had previously soared to alarming levels, saw a substantial improvement, reaching 164 shortly before noon.
This change in weather conditions also led to Lahore descending a few places on the list of the world’s most polluted cities, moving from the top position it held for weeks to now ranking as the sixth most polluted city.
