TRIPOLI, Libya: The Presidential Council of Libya, acting as the Chief Commander of the Army, has issued a decisive order for all military forces to return to their barracks and cease any movement without explicit permission.
This move comes as a response to escalating tensions and recent clashes between rival military factions.
The Council’s statement underscores that any actions involving mobilization or readiness changes are under the exclusive authority of the Chief Commander.
The Council warns that unauthorized military activity could destabilize the country further and violate the existing ceasefire agreement.
The recent clashes in Tajoura between the Rahba Al-Duru and Al-Shaheeda Sabria battalions have resulted in nine deaths and sixteen injuries, highlighting the urgency of the Council’s directive.
President Mohammed Menfi has emphasized the need for measures that promote stability and reduce political polarization. These include transparent management of public spending and oil revenues to address critical issues and alleviate public suffering.
Menfi also stresses the importance of achieving security and military objectives through a unified national defence committee to ensure Libya’s sovereignty and end foreign influence.
In response to the tensions, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army has instructed an increase in readiness to counter any potential threats. The situation remains volatile, with various military factions preparing for possible engagements as the country seeks to restore order and maintain the ceasefire.
