TRIPOLI: Humanitarian aid is now rushing into Libya following the tragic floods that hit the eastern part of the country last week, killing thousands.
The unity government based in Tripoli released a statement announcing that 38 planes carrying relief aid from 17 different countries have touched down in Libya.
The statement further mentioned the anticipated arrival of a Turkish aid ship at the port of Tobruk on Saturday.
Turkey’s Solidarity with Libya
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed Turkey’s solidarity with Libya in the aftermath of the catastrophic floods, pledging to mobilize all available state resources to assist the Libyan people.
Erdogan said that Turkey had already dispatched three aircraft and three ships as part of their humanitarian aid efforts to support flood-affected Libya. He made this announcement during an urban transformation and earthquake forum in Istanbul.
According to the latest official figures, the devastating floods that struck eastern Libya over the weekend resulted in the loss of at least 6,000 lives, with thousands more still reported as missing.
These catastrophic floods were caused by torrential rains from Storm Daniel, affecting various regions in eastern Libya, notably Benghazi, Al-Bayda, Al-Marj, Soussa, and Derna.
