Libya and Russia Explore Educational Cooperation and Disaster Response, Discuss Political Developments

BENGHAZI: Youssef Al-Aqouri, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, and Aydar Aganin, Moscow’s ambassador to Libya, convened in Benghazi to explore avenues for enhancing educational cooperation and providing scholarships to Libyan students in Russia.

Their discussions also revolved around the reinvigoration of joint agreements concerning civil safety and disaster response.

The meeting encompassed exchanges of perspectives on the most recent political developments and electoral laws issued by the House of Representatives, underscoring the significance of these issues.

Abdullah Blehiq, the spokesperson of the House of Representatives, underscored Al-Aqouri’s commitment to strengthening relations with Russia and expressed hope for Russia’s support in promoting Libya’s stability and the removal of foreign forces and mercenaries from the region.

The Russian ambassador reiterated his country’s dedication to supporting Libya in conducting elections, emphasizing that elections provide the Libyan people with the democratic means to elect their representatives. He also disclosed that efforts are underway to establish a Russian consulate in Benghazi in the near future, facilitating closer monitoring of relations and cooperation between the two nations. This diplomatic engagement signals a potential step forward in fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between Libya and Russia.
