LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has ordered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Yasmin Rashid to be released immediately, suspending her detention order made a day ago.

Hearing a petition seeking her release, the LHC ordered her release if she is not “required in any other criminal case”. The petition stated that Rashid was not named in the First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Sarwar Road police station here and was taken into “illegal custody”.

Senior party leaders Dr Shireen Mazari and Dr Yasmin Rashid were arrested by police in separate raids carried out in Islamabad and Lahore as the police crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders showed no signs of slowing down.

The Islamabad police raided Mazari’s house during the early hours of Friday. Her arrest came after a series of arrests of several other Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaf leaders, including Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Ali Mohammad Khan, and Senator Ejaz Chaudhry. All of these leaders other than Imran Khan were arrested under section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
