The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday directed the deputy registrar to return passport to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice President and daughter of Nawaz Sharif, Maryum Nawaz.
Maryam Nawaz had surrendered her passport to the court in 2019 on account of getting bail from the Supreme Court in the Avenfield property case.
The orders were issued by a full bench of the court, headed by LHC Chief Justice Ameer Bhatti. The bench was comprised of Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Tariq Saleem Shaikh. The bench heard Maryam’s plea for the recovery of her passport and issued the directives.
Earlier during the hearing, the deputy attorney general and National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) lawyer told the court that neither the federal government nor the accountability watchdog had any objections to returning the passport.
It is worth mentioning here that a two-member bench of LHC also acquitted Maryam Nawaz in the Avenfield case on 29 September 2022.
