LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Monday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Dr. Shireen Mazari’s arrest to be “illegal” and ordered her release.

Mazari’s daughter had requested the court, arguing that the arrest was illegal, unconstitutional and in violation of the fundamental rights.

Meanwhile, Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb presided over the hearing of PTI leader Shireen Mazari’s contempt plea against the officials in the wake of her rearrest. During the hearing, Justice Aurangzeb noted that Islamabad police obeyed the orders issued by the deputy commissioner and violated the orders of the court. “This is a fit case for issuing a show-cause notice for contempt,” Justice Aurangzeb remarked.

Jail officials were also called to the rostrum and asked whether they had prevented Mazari’s legal team from meeting her. The officials responded that they were allowed to meet the PTI leader on two occasions but on the third, they were turned away as they had arrived late. At one point, the judge remarked that the court would issue an “appropriate order”.

Furthermore, PTI’s senior leader Amir Dogar has been rearrested shortly after being released from Jhang jail on Monday morning. In a video released by the PTI, the leader can be seen being shifted to a police van soon after his release from the jail.

It is to mention here that the Punjab police have confirmed that they have obtained the record of individuals who were present during the vandalism at Jinnah House in Lahore on May 9. In a tweet, the police said they were able to gather the information through the use of geo-fencing and advanced technology. The police had on Sunday also arrested some YouTubers, lawyers, and PTI activists after identifying them through video clips and CCTV footage.
