LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has nullified the detention orders pertaining to 123 PTI workers from Faisalabad under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) held in jails across Punjab for their alleged involvement in the May 9 violence.

The court has directed the government to release them without delay. These workers, arrested from Faisalabad, are currently detained in various jails throughout Punjab.

Justice Anwarul Haq of the LHC issued the orders during the hearing of a petition filed by PTI leader Farrukh Habib who sought the release of the detained party activists.

The Punjab police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers and leaders wanted in cases lodged against them all over the province under the Anti-Terrorism Act for carrying out attacks on public and private buildings, the Corps Commander House in Lahore, enforcement agencies and their vehicles. As per reports, the party workers pelted the police with stones. They fled when more police force was called for support.

Most of the arrests were made through the cameras of CCTV of the Safe City Authority and other video recordings from private cameras and mobile phones.
