LAHORE: A Lahore High Court (LHC) judge has recommended the formation of a larger bench on a plea, seeking the removal of Imran Khan as the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.
LHC jued Justice Muhammad Sajid Mehmood Sethi heard the plea filed by advocate Muhammad Afaq, who has sought the removal of Imran Khan as the party chief.
The petitioner has made the federal government, the Election Commission of Pakistan, Imran Khan and others as respondents.
The petition has taken the plea that the ECP has disqualified Imran Khan and he has no legal standing to continue as the PTI chairman.
The petitioner has requested the court to remove the former prime minister as the party chief and also issue orders for his replacement.
After initial arguments, the LHC single bench sent the case file to the LHC chief justice to form a larger bench to hear the petition.
On October 21, the ECP disqualified Imran Khan as a member of the National Assembly after the polls body found him “guilty of corrupt practices.”
Imran Khan has challenged his disqualification in the Islamabad High Court.
