LAHORE: On Wednesday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) took action by issuing a show-cause notice for contempt of court to Islamabad Chief Commissioner (CC) Mohammad Anwarul Haq while hearing a plea for PTI President Parvez Elahi’s production in court and release.

This development follows a previous order from the LHC, issued a day earlier, which had directed both the city’s CC and Inspector General (IG) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, to appear before the court alongside Parvez Elahi, who had already received a show-cause notice on Monday.

The context for this legal action stems from the repeated arrests of the PTI president, who has been taken into custody at least 11 times in various cases since June. These arrests have occurred as part of a broader crackdown on the PTI following the May 9 violence.

The PTI president was detained again a day ago, just hours after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered his release and suspended his imprisonment under Section 3 of the MPO ordinance.

Notably, Parvez Elahi’s release, ordered by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), was short-lived as he was rearrested shortly after the announcement of his release.

The Islamabad police’s statements regarding his release and subsequent rearrest on X (formerly Twitter) showed a time difference of just eight minutes. According to the police, Parvez Elahi’s detention was related to a case registered at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station.
