LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday granted protective bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in a sedition case registered against him in Islamabad.
As per the first information report (FIR) registered in Police Station Ramna, the ex-premier was accused of “insulting the institutions, tarnishing their image, inciting people against them and abetment” under sections 500, 505, and 138 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
Earlier today, Imran Khan reached the LHC to seek protective bail in the case.
Imran’s petition
The PTI chairman contended in his petition that the FIR registered against him was politically-motivated.
The plea stated that Imran Khan was absolutely innocent and has been falsely implicated with underlying motives and malafide intentions in this case only to tarnish his reputation, spoil his growing mandate among masses and politically victimize him.
The petition further stated that Imran and senior PTI leadership have been booked in a series of false criminal cases during the past few months.
