RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday ordered the regional police officer (RPO) to immediately recover Sheikh Rasheed and submit a report in court within a week.

Last week, the Awami Muslim League (AML) head and former federal minister Sheikh Rasheed was arrested from his Rawalpindi residence, however later his whereabouts were unknown as police said they had no information about him.

During the hearing, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan, from the Rawalpindi bench of LHC reprimanded the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Khurram Ali for failing to recover the senior politician and former minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad. The Court ordered the police to recover the former minister and if they failed to do so strict action would be taken against the force. Meanwhile, the RPO requested for a period of one more week from the court, which was granted.

The Petition by Sheikh Rasheed

Earlier, lawyers of Sheikh Rasheed, Sardar Razzak and Sardar Shehbaz moved to the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday against the arrest of the leader of the Awami Muslim League. IG Punjab, RPO, CCPO Rawalpindi and SSP Operations were made as respondents in the case.

The plea maintained that Punjab police arrested Sheikh Rasheed without arrest warrants and was kept at an ‘undisclosed’ place. “There is no case against the applicant, nor any investigation was underway, the plea further stated.
