LHC Bar Association Challenges 26th Amendment in Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHBA) on Saturday filed a petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

Professional lawyers group head Hamid Khan submitted a constitutional petition on behalf of the LHC Bar, seeking a declaration that various clauses of the 26th Amendment are unconstitutional.

The petitioner has requested the top court to declare sections 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 of the 26th Amendment as well as sections 16, 17, and 21 unconstitutional.

Moreover, the petitioner has asked the court to invalidate the actions taken under these sections of the constitutional amendment.

The petition also requests that the judicial commission and other related actions be restrained while the case is pending.

The respondents named in the petition include the federation, the judicial commission, the National Assembly, the Senate, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the President.
