Peshawar: A head constable of Levies was shot dead in Lower Dir in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa K-P on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police said that Sher Salam was a head constable in Dir Levies force and he was deployed at the Chakdara fort.

He said that unidentified assailants opened fire at Salam while he was on way home, killing him on the sport.

Local police and Levies personnel launched a search operation after the incident to hunt the fleeing attackers.

Police said that the slain Levies man had no personal enmity and it was an act of terrorism.

Local residents alleged that terrorists were hiding in their area and the government, despite the claim of putting stringent security arrangements, has left them at the mercy of terrorists who target civilians and security forces with impunity.

A few months ago, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly member Liaqat was killed along with his family members in Dir by unidentified attackers. Dir police have so far failed to trace the assailants. Attacks on law enforcement personnel and civilians has witnessed a spike in K-P in recent months. A few days ago, two policemen were shot and injured in Kohat by assailants.
