LAHORE: In a proactive move against electricity theft, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has initiated the installation of cutting-edge technology to curb power pilferage.

LESCO, on Friday, deployed 135 scanning meters across the district to enable technical staff to pinpoint areas where electricity theft is occurring.

The introduction of scanning meters is a strategic measure to enhance the identification and monitoring of power theft. LESCO’s technical officer revealed that additional scanning meters would be installed in various areas shortly, reinforcing the company’s commitment to curbing electricity theft.

Data from the previous month indicated that LESCO, during its anti-power theft crackdown, identified 282 connections engaged in electricity pilferage across its circles in five districts. In response, LESCO took swift action, submitting applications to the relevant police stations for the registration of FIRs against 268 electricity thieves. Of these, 176 cases were successfully registered, leading to the arrest of 24 individuals involved in power theft.

These operations align with the directives from the Federal Power Division, and LESCO CEO Engineer Shahid Haider is overseeing the efforts to combat electricity theft. Haider affirmed that the crackdown would persist without discrimination until electricity theft is entirely eradicated. The commitment extends to holding both electricity pilferers and LESCO officers or employees facilitating them accountable.

As part of its robust response, LESCO has charged a total of 48,108,264 detection units, amounting to Rs 1,990,830,066, to power pilferers based on the data from the previous month. The company’s multifaceted approach aims to secure the integrity of the power supply system and maintain fair and legal electricity distribution.
