ALGIERS: Parliamentary committees of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Saturday agreed to take steps to digitize the OIC’s work and arrange periodic virtual meetings and sessions to further enhance its work.

They made the consensus during the preparatory meetings for the 17th session of the Parliamentary Union of the member countries, which will be held in the Algerian capital, Algiers today.
The secretary-General of the Parliamentary Union Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass repeated his call for setting up a cooperation mechanism between international and OIC member countries parliaments to further strengthen ties in all fields. He hoped that they will develop a program to accomplish the objectives of the PUIC’s General Assembly.
Earlier, the 9th meeting of the committee specialized in cultural, legal affairs and the dialogue of civilizations, religions was held on Friday.

The meeting reviewed a number of proposed resolutions related to Islamic sanctities worldwide particularly the protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque from threats. The committee dealt with combating religious intolerance and supporting dialogue among different civilizations.
