LAHORE: Renowned poet, columnist and travelogue writer Ibn-e-Insha was remembered on his 90th birth anniversary across the country on Saturday.
He was born as Sher Muhammad Khan in Jalandhar in 1927 and later migrated to Pakistan with his family. He was regarded as one of the best humorists of Urdu literature along with his poetry.
His poetry was simple but had depth. He was famous was his humorous poetry and columns. His masterpieces are still remembered by his fans and his most famous ghazal `Insha Ji Uttho’ is a classic.
Ibn-e-Insha’s poetic works are Dil-e-Wehshi and Chand Nagar while travelogues are “Dunya Gol Hey”, “Awara Gard Ki Diary”, “Chaltay Ho to Cheen Ko Chaliye” “Ibn-e-Batoota Kay Taqub Main” and “Nagri Nagri Phira Musafir”.
His humorous books are “Urdu Ki Aakhri Kitaab” and “Khumar-e-Gandum”.
He has also worked with various government services including the Ministry of Culture, Radio Pakistan and the National Book Centre of Pakistan. He also served in the United Nations (UN) for some time and this enabled him to visit a lot of places and was the reason for his subsequent travelogues.
He was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 1978.
