MUZAFFARGARH: In a significant show of displeasure, the District Bar Association of Muzaffargarh observed a full-day strike and protested against the relentless hike in electricity bills amid mounting inflation.
President District Bar Association, Sardar Sher Khan Korai Advocate, and General Secretary Bar Raffaqat Bhatta Advocate led the demonstration, conveying the collective rejection by the legal community to the escalation in electricity costs almost every month.
Speaking to the protesters, Korai and Bhatta expressed grave concern over the abundance of unwarranted taxes on electricity consumption, which they said, have burdened the populace beyond tolerable limits.
They noted that the hike in electricity cost coupled with rampant inflation had detrimentally impacted the people of the country.
The District Bar Association demanded complete abolishing of taxes inserted in electricity bills and an immediate reduction in the per-unit electricity rate. They also warned of intensified protests if these demands were not met timely. As a manifestation of their discontent, the lawyers also boycotted court proceedings, causing inconvenience to litigants who had traveled to courts from distant areas.
