In the video, which was filmed in a moving vehicle, Prigozhin dismisses rumours about his status, asserting, “For those who are discussing whether I’m alive or not, how I’m doing — right now it’s the weekend, the second half of August 2023, I’m in Africa.” With a nonchalant wave of his hand, he brushes off discussions about his personal life and financial affairs, offering reassurance that all is well. However, the veracity of the video’s location and date remains uncertain, casting a veil of intrigue over this rare glimpse into Prigozhin’s life.
Matching the attire and accessories from a video released earlier on August 21, Prigozhin’s camouflage clothing, hat, and watch affirm his presence on the African continent. Remarkably, his casual mention of the “weekend” hints that the video was likely recorded on August 19 or 20, just a few days prior to the tragic plane crash that claimed his life. Prigozhin, along with other prominent figures from his Wagner Group, met their demise in the crash that occurred north of Moscow on August 23.
