Late Profit-Taking Wipes Out Gains at Pakistan Stock Exchange

The index settles at 124,093.12 points, showing a negative change of 0.21%

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a volatile session on Thursday as the benchmark KSE-100 index closed trading with a loss of over 250 points, despite a strong start to the day’s trading.

The trading session at the PSX started on a strong note, with the benchmark index climbing to an intra-day high of 126,718.28.

However, momentum shifted in the latter half as selling pressure intensified, pushing the index down to an intra-day low of 123,846.55.

By the close, the index had settled at 124,093.12, showing a decline of 259.56 points or 0.21%.

On Thursday, a total of 1,024,633,864 shares were traded as compared to 1,041,129,574 shares the previous working day, whereas the price of shares stood at PKR 50.539 billion against PKR 46.707 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 474 companies transacted their shares in the stock market, 170 of them recorded gains and 270 met losses, whereas the share price of 34 companies remained unchanged.

The three top trading companies were Sui South Gas with 55,899,181 shares at PKR 41.92 per share, followed by Fauji Cement with 50,597,576 shares at PKR 47.36 per share, and WorldCall Telecom settled with 49,327,936 shares at PKR 1.37 per share.

Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited witnessed a maximum increase of PKR 204.47 per share, closing at PKR 23,310.33, whereas Hoechst Pakistan Limited was the runner-up with a PKR 122.44 increase in its share price to close at PKR 3,249.51.

PIA Holding Company LimitedB witnessed a maximum decline of PKR 2,331.99 per share price, closing at PKR 20,987.89, whereas Khyber Textile Mills Limited was the runner-up with a drop of PKR 221.55 in its per share price to PKR 1,993.94

On Wednesday, the PSX continued its buying rally fueled by robust investor participation and improved sentiment following the positive announcements in the federal budget.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index increased by 2,328 points, or 1.91%, to close at 124,352.68 points, up from 122,024.44 points in the last working session.
