NEW DELHI, India: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav condemned the recent rape and murder of a woman doctor at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. Yadav called for “the harshest possible punishment” for the perpetrators, labeling the crime as heinous and stressing the necessity for justice for both the victim and her family.

Yadav’s remarks came amid nationwide protests by doctors, who have taken to the streets demanding justice and enhanced protection for medical professionals. The protests, sparked by the brutal incident in Kolkata, have disrupted healthcare services across India. In Patna, major hospitals including Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) have suspended emergency and outpatient services, reflecting the doctors’ concerns for their safety and urgent calls for improved security measures.

In addition to his public statements, Yadav traveled to Delhi on Saturday, with plans to visit Singapore for a routine health checkup. He had previously undergone a kidney transplant in Singapore in December 2022, with his daughter Rohini Acharya as the donor.
