LAJA, UN Women Organize National Conference of Service Providers in Justice Sector

ISLAMABAD: The Legal Aid and Justice Authority and UN Women on Tuesday organized the first-ever National Conference of Service Providers in Islamabad.

The conference brought together a diverse network of Criminal Justice stakeholders to engage in cross-learning and exchange of best practices, with the objective of establishing standards of care for survivors and strengthening the implementation of Gender-Based Violence laws across Pakistan.

Addressing the event, Director General of the National Police Bureau Ehsan Sadiq highlighted the importance of this collaborative effort, saying that this conference represents an important stride in addressing GBV comprehensively.

He said that by connecting professionals across different domains, they are creating a robust network aimed at building a more coordinated response to GBV, ensuring survivors receive the help they rightfully deserve.

Chairperson of the Special Committee on Anti-Rape Law at the Ministry of Law and Justice, Ayesha Raza Farooq, underlined the transformative potential of the event.

Significance of Conference

She said that their commitment to strengthening GBV laws is intrinsically linked to improving mechanisms for supporting survivors. This event acts as a cornerstone in aligning the legal framework with the specific requirements of survivors, driving a survivor-centric approach.

She added that this historic conference marks an important step toward advancing the standards of services and response for survivors of Gender-Based Violence in Pakistan.

Country Representative of UN Women Sharmeela Rassool asserted the country-wide importance of this initiative, saying that ending gender-based violence needed a united national effort where every person becomes a voice against silence. Let us join hands and work together until every corner of the country is free from the shadows of GBV.
