BISHKEK: The President of Kyrgyzstan opened the renovated Torugart 2 checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border on Thursday.

The checkpoint was built in 1993 and is conventionally called Torugart One and Torugart Two due to the fact that the first was built in 1993, and the second in 2010-2018 with the support of China.

Torugart 2 complex required reconstruction: there was a sharp entrance, inconveniently located facilities, and few parking spaces.

As a result, the administrative building of Torugart Two complex was reconstructed with the construction of 6 traffic lanes, installation of covered, insulated hangars, where customs control of 6 vehicles can be carried out simultaneously.

Moreover, demolition of non-functional and dilapidated structures and buildings is underway for the further arrangement of additional parking areas and optimization of vehicle traffic schemes within the territory of the checkpoint. This will help enhance its throughput.

President emphasizes improved infrastructure

Sadyr Japarov emphasized that the improved infrastructure of the checkpoint must fully comply with the required standards; it is important to create the most favorable conditions for vehicles crossing the border. He proposed increasing the number of working hours on a day-night basis from spring 2024.

The president also instructed to take all necessary steps to ensure the uninterrupted operation of automated customs systems.

He inspected the reconstructed dormitory building for border guards.
