Kyrgyzstan’s FM Collaborates with UN Representative on Counter-Drug Measures

BISHKEK: The Foreign Affairs Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev, held a meeting with Kaha Imnadze, the newly appointed Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia and Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA). Imnadze’s visit to Bishkek was part of a tour of the region, during which the officials discussed various matters of mutual interest.

Minister Kulubaev extended congratulations to Kaha Imnadze on his recent appointment and expressed optimism that the initiatives and proactive efforts of the UN Regional Center would foster stronger cooperation among the nations in the region.

Among the topics covered were the areas of collaboration between the UNRCCA and Central Asian states. Particular focus was placed on strategies to counter terrorism and combat drug trafficking, promote the fair use of water and energy resources, and address the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

Kyrgyzstan Urges UNRCCA for Active Role

Minister Kulubaev urged the UNRCCA to take an active role in line with its mandate in preventing challenges and security threats. He emphasized the importance of assistance from the UNRCCA in equipping Central Asian countries to effectively address security concerns.

In response, Kaha Imnadze expressed his willingness to contribute to the advancement and prosperity of Central Asian nations. He expressed gratitude to the Kyrgyz Republic’s Foreign Ministry for their well wishes and underscored his commitment to fulfilling his mission in Central Asia successfully.

The dialogue between Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister and the UN Representative highlights the significance of regional cooperation in addressing pressing issues, including counter-terrorism efforts and the fight against drug trafficking.
