BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan: In a compassionate gesture, Kyrgyzstan is set to provide crucial humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, which has been grappling with the aftermath of a devastating earthquake.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, acting on behalf of President Sadyr Japarov, announced the initiative.
As part of this humanitarian effort, the Ministry will deliver 100 tons of essential supplies to Afghanistan. The aid package includes 75 tons of flour, 20 tons of sugar, 5 tons of sunflower oil, along with 500 beds and an equal number of warm blankets and mattresses. Additionally, winter clothes, shoes, toys, and vital food and personal hygiene products will be distributed to women and children. The entire assistance, valued at 1 million soms, will be funded through allocations from the International Civil Defense Organization.
The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 6.3, struck the northwestern part of the city of Herat in Afghanistan on October 7, 2023. The calamity resulted in tragic consequences, with over 2,000 lives lost, 9,200 people sustaining injuries, and more than 1,300 houses left damaged.
