Kyrgyzstan Ranked Among 15 Most Energy-Intensive Countries Globally

BISHKEK: The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has proposed amendments to the energy-saving law, submitted to parliament on March 2, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy.

The Ministry of Energy highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s inclusion in the list of the 15 most energy-intensive countries globally, underscoring the pressing need for energy-saving measures. The country’s energy consumption is reported to be ten times higher than the world average, with 1.2 tons of oil being utilized per $1,000 of GDP.

Moreover, the ministry provided concerning statistics on electricity consumption, indicating a persistent deficit since 2014, with consumption surpassing production by 1.9-5.3%. This imbalance underscores the urgency of implementing strategies to improve energy efficiency and reduce reliance on imported electricity.

The breakdown of energy consumption patterns revealed that the residential sector accounts for over 61% of fuel and energy resources, indicating the significance of energy-saving initiatives in households. Additionally, the transport sector consumes 18%, followed by industry at 12%, the commercial sector at 8%, and agriculture at 1%.
