BISHKEK: Kyrgyzstan has officially initiated the construction phase of the ambitious China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project with the establishment of a special interdepartmental commission.
The first meeting of this commission, led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev, was held, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
The meeting, according to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, focused on reviewing the investment agreement between the Kyrgyz government and the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Company LLC. This agreement is a crucial component of the broader project aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and optimizing the transit potential of railway transport across Central Asia.
The interdepartmental commission was formed to oversee the development of Kyrgyzstan’s railway network and ensure the successful execution of the railway project.
Participants in the meeting discussed the phased approach to implementing the international railway project, emphasizing the need for efficient and effective resolution of potential challenges. The Cabinet of Ministers has directed relevant ministries, committees, administrative departments, local governments, state enterprises, and organizations to collaborate closely with the commission and facilitate the smooth progression of the project.
In June 2024, Kyrgyzstan ratified the “Agreement between the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Government of Uzbekistan on Cooperation in Joint Promotion of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Project,” which was signed in Beijing.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project is poised to be a transformative endeavor for Central Asia, improving transportation links between the three countries and facilitating greater regional integration.
