BISHKEK: chas said that there is a complete freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan, adding laws should be followed to regularize the sphere of mass media. The president said that the laws regulating the sphere of mass media should be observed, this is mainly national security and so on.
He said it has become commonplace to shape public opinion via social networks, which compete with traditional media.
In such conditions every citizen of the country, whether a journalist or a blogger, should realize that along with the desire to benefit society, he or she is also responsible for every word spread, the President said.
Kyrgyz President Vows to Support Free Speech
He added that they supported quality investigative journalism in the country. However, he remarked that in most cases, bloggers are also engaged into distorting facts, making mountains out of molehills, or resorting to misleading the society.
He added that their content must be supported by facts, not speculation; journalist must contain information rather than rumors.
He added that they are for diversity of opinions in society, but “We are against the collapse of the state”, that is, against freedom without responsibility.
He further said, “Our freedom must stand guard and protect the interests of Kyrgyzstan.”
