Kyrgyz President Regional Cooperation at 6th Central Asia Summit

ASTANA: Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov addressed the 6th Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of States in Astana.

The meeting was attended by Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, and Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Japarov highlighted the Consultative Meetings’ success in enhancing regional cooperation, noting their role in strengthening ties across various sectors, including trade, economics, investment, transport, logistics, regional security, ecology, climate change, and cultural and humanitarian issues.

He emphasized that these meetings have led to stable and consistent regional rapprochement.

The Kyrgyz President pointed out the commencement of several large infrastructure and international projects involving foreign investors, such as hydroelectric power plants, highways, and airport modernizations.

He noted significant fiscal improvements in Kyrgyzstan, with customs revenues increasing 3.9 times and taxes 2.3 times over the past three years. Japarov also acknowledged regional collaboration in Kyrgyzstan’s large projects.

Kyrgyzstan’s economic policy focuses on energy, mining, and transport sectors. Japarov mentioned ongoing developments in transport infrastructure, including the modernization of international highways, construction of modern airports, completion of the Kyrgyzstan North-South strategic highway, and the start of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.

Furthermore, Japarov noted that Kyrgyzstan successfully advocated for a Global Dialogue on Mountains and Climate Change at the COP 28 climate conference in Dubai, with the dialogue held in Bonn on June 5, 2024.
