BISHKEK: Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov engaged in discussions with Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), to address obstacles hindering the effectiveness of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

The meeting, as reported by the press service of the Kyrgyz head of state, focused on current areas of cooperation within the framework of Kyrgyzstan’s membership in the EAEU, as well as strategies for deepening and expanding integration within the Eurasian space.

President Japarov highlighted the upcoming 10th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on EAEU, acknowledging the significant progress achieved in various areas of collaboration over the past decade. However, he also expressed concerns regarding certain provisions of the agreement, particularly pertaining to the principle of the “four freedoms” – the movement of goods, services, capital, and labor.

Kyrgyz President Notes Trend of Obstacles

Japarov noted a troubling trend of increasing obstacles to mutual trade within the Union, emphasizing the importance of addressing these challenges to fulfill the objective of establishing a fully operational economic union. He underscored the necessity for all member states to prioritize the creation of a cohesive economic bloc in the near future.

During the meeting, President Japarov reiterated the priority tasks outlined at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, held last year. These tasks are aimed at advancing the development of the EAEU and overcoming barriers to trade and cooperation among member states.

Chairman Sagintaev provided updates on the efforts undertaken by the Eurasian Economic Commission to address emerging issues and resolve barriers to mutual trade within the EAEU. He assured prompt action and emphasized the commission’s commitment to facilitating smoother integration processes among member states.
