BISHKEK: Kyrgyzstan’s President, Sadyr Japarov, expressed condolences to Iranian leader Ebrahim Raisi following a terrorist attack in Kerman. In a telegram, President Japarov conveyed deep regret over the tragic consequences of the attack.

The message strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms, emphasizing its threat to global peace and stability. President Japarov, on behalf of the Kyrgyz people and himself, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Iran. He shared the pain of the irreparable loss and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.

The terrorist attack near the tomb of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in Kerman resulted in at least 103 fatalities and 140 injuries. Soleimani, the commander of an elite unit of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was assassinated in a U.S. special operation on January 3, 2020, under the administration of then-President Donald Trump. The attack was carried out in response to Soleimani’s alleged plans to target the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Iran retaliated with missile strikes on two Iraqi military bases housing personnel from the U.S.-led coalition.
